Affirmations for Healing from Eve St. John

This post is an interview between Margot Malin, Founder of Lots To Live For, Inc. and Eve St. John, discussing her journey back to health using affirmations and crystals.

What was the inspiration for launching Eve St. John, LLC?

I have been in the field of fitness for the past 20 years.  My passion has always been to inspire, motivate and ignite your spirit through my yoga and fitness classes, workshops, and uplifting community events.  I love empowering my students, my friends, my family, my kids, my neighbors, my customers and everyone to always believe in themselves, that there is nothing they can’t do or achieve.  Four years ago, I had a freak accident where I got hit on the head with a flying hockey puck at my son’s game.  It was a serious injury but, I was so blessed and lucky because I am here to tell you the story.  After severe head hematoma and not being able to resume my normal life activity or work, I started meditating seriously and counting my blessings daily more than ever before.

What were some of the affirmations that you meditated on?

I started to meditate to gratitude daily. Counting every blessing, my breath, that I woke up, that I walked, that I could get dressed, that I was able to think, that I had my family who cared, and so much love from so many.  Repeating the words, I am love, I am peace, I am strong, I am healthy, I am grateful, I am amazing, I am beautiful and I am evolving.  I repeated these words even though at the time, I had hard time believing the words I was saying and with my face was so physically distorted I looked anything but beautiful, however I knew I was beautiful inside and nothing was going to take that away from me.

What are simple affirmations that you can offer to help cancer patients through their journey?

Gratitude and Affirmations

Gratitude and Affirmations

Any of these affirmations would be a good positive way to empower you and start your day…. I am strong, I am healthy, My body heals very quickly, I am a miracle, I heal my body with every breath that I take, I love (whatever type of ailment, for example if its breast) say I love my breasts, and I appreciate my body…..I believe sending love to the body part that has needs love is important part of healing. I am getting better each day, I am determined to help others with my story, with my miracle and healing, affirmation can be your personal goal of what you want stating it in a positive way as it has already happened, thanking it.

How did you incorporate gratitude into your healing?

I incorporated gratitude into my healing by daily meditation, keeping a journal, listing things that I was grateful for, on some days, just writing that I can write in this journal, that my fingers, and brain were functioning, I was grateful to be alive, grateful to be able to eat, see, hear.  I believe meditation of daily gratitude is very powerful and empowering, whether you do it in the morning or at night, I did it every time I felt I was worried, scared, or in pain.  When you can stay grateful in your most challenging days by counting your blessings, your light will always take over the darkness.  Gratitude opens the doors to more blessings and healing.  Since you can’t think of two thoughts at the same time, you can’t ever be sad, depressed, worried or stressed with your problems as you are counting your blessings at that moment, so you distract the mind from being in a negative place.

During recovery, why did you study crystals and what did you learn?

I was so intrigued by the following: how I can heal faster, how I can be a miracle, how I can help others through my challenging times, how I can be stronger, and how I can resume my normal life asap.  I started searching how to bring more energy to me, my home, etc…..I discovered the power of colors, organization of your home,  power of crystal and gem beads, and how each carry different energy associated with them.  I was fascinated.  I learned that I can enhance the energy that I bring to me through the power of colors, and crystals, and gems, I wanted to make a bracelet with clear crystal quartz to help me heal faster.

Are there any crystals that you would recommend to cancer patients?

Often people ask me this question, which crystal or gem bracelet they should get for their loved ones or for themselves?  It’s so strange but most of the time, one craves the energy and the color of the crystal beads, or gems that that they need in their life, and often when they read the story that is associated with the bracelet of their choice they realize they find the perfect right one.  It’s a very personal choice, but personally I would recommend clear crystal quartz or any gems with healing, empowering properties.

Which are your most popular products?

All my designs are popular and empowering, due to their story, people shop according to their wish, from meditation kits, to large crystal bracelets, to petite crystal beads, or the gem and gratitude collection.  Some love wearing the “empowering” tank top from my shirt collection to be their reminder that the universe is at their command and that they are limitless, some love wearing the “I am” tank top, knowing that they are everything that they set their mind to.  People who love to meditate love the gratitude line of items.  Younger people love the petite crystals, and then there are many that love wearing all the colors and love stacking all the bracelets as their reminders of empowerment, strength, beauty, perseverance and love.

Tell us a bit about the crystal bracelets and the cards that go with them?

Eve St John crystal bracelets

Crystal bracelets

I made my first bracelet for myself while I was healing from my head accident.  Then when I went back to my regular job of teaching yoga classes, all my students were so drawn to them and they all started asking me to make them one.  The demand grew bigger and bigger, where now I am proud to be able to employ local moms, college students, to help me grow my business and helping me making them to meet the demand, as I help support all local stores in NJ.

Each crystal bracelet comes with an appropriate story and the energy it carries that I write about each one, along with explanation of the meaning of the crystal beads and gems, a wish card as well as the affirmation words that I had used in my darkest days to get me through my difficult times.  I am so grateful to be able to help inspire and empower through my designs.  Each day I send a special mediation and a prayer which is my, gratitude to every person wearing these what I believe are magical bracelets, as well as everyone else to make you feel on top of the world.  I know these bracelets have brought so much love, healing, strength, peace and joy to me that there is nothing I love more than making them for everyone.

Where can readers find your bracelets?

They can find at their local stores in Bergen County, NJ including: Hallmark at Woodcliff Lake NJ, The Zen Shop Riverside Square Mall, Tess Morgan Paramus Mall, All is Well in Wyckoff, The Market House in Westwood NJ, Cose Belle in Franklin Lakes NJ.   If any of the readers would like to order one on line at evestjohn.com there is a special coupon offer that is valid until April 1,2017 that will give 20% off every order no matter how many times the purchase.

Use coupon code  HEALTHYFOREVER to get 20% off all online orders (code valid through 4/1/17).

All designs can be found on our website www.evestjohn.com

You are amazing and one of a kind.  It’s nice to have a reminder of who we are and have designed all my pieces with you in mind.  We all need a reminder! No matter who we are.  Shop according to the energy you like.

Eve St. John

Eve St. John

How are you doing now? Is your face healed?

I am very blessed and yes my face is back to normal, although I have an indentation on my forehead, it’s hardly noticeable and I am so grateful for that because that is my reminder of how lucky, blessed I was and I am, that I am here to tell you my story.

I am so grateful to all of you for allowing me to spread more love and light to your life.  Eve St. John

The cushions prevent chafing, wick away perspiration and help prevent bacterial growth.  The Comfort Single Sling, designed especially for women receiving radiation for breast cancer, is worn when one is not wearing a bra. The strap is completely adjustable and will fit most everyone. Women have found that wearing a ComfortSling from the onset of radiation therapy, even before any side effects have begun to appear, is the most effective way to minimize uncomfortable side effects to the skin. Wearing the sling as many hours as possible throughout the day, will provide the most comfortable results. Many women also choose to wear the sling while sleeping.

We always welcome inquiries from entrepreneurs who have developed products that will help cancer patients.

We also welcome customer feedback.

Best wishes for health and happiness in the year ahead.

How Do I Tell My Kids That Mommy Has Cancer?

by Megan Pomputius

How Do I Tell My Kids That Mommy Has Cancer? Still My Mommy book

There were many questions that raced through my mind when I was first diagnosed with ovarian cancer. One of the biggest questions, was how I was going to tell my 2-year-old daughter who was at my bedside in the hospital after my surgery. She didn’t even know what the word “cancer” meant. She saw that mommy had a big boo-boo and wanted to kiss it and make it better. Then as the doctors took care of me and she watched, she would practice on her baby dolls. Then as I lost my hair, she watched as I finally shaved all of it off. She knew something was different. I looked for other resources to help guide her through this, but never found anything I liked. As a mom diagnosed with cancer, you are faced with so many different decisions and choices that trying to find a good book for your child(ren) shouldn’t have to be one of them. After my diagnosis, a feeling in my heart just kept wanting to produce something to help other women going through this diagnosis in their lives. I finally decided that writing a children’s book was what I was meant to do. I wrote the story Still My Mommy that demonstrates the relationship between a mother and daughter before, during, and after the diagnosis to help moms explain that changes may happen but we are still the same amazing moms. It features beautiful illustrations by Andrea Alemanno who resides in Italy and was contracted through Mascot Books.

The story begins featuring the relationship between mom and daughter and all of the fun things that they do together; baking, playing outside, reading books.  Then it shows mom going to the hospital and getting a boo-boo and how the little girl takes care of her dolls just like the nurses did. It features them shopping for wigs together, mommy being tired some days, but at the end of the story, (still bald), she is still the same amazing mommy, no matter what the outcome of the disease.

After Scarlett (age 4) read the story with her mommy, it brought up a lot of questions as she asked, “what’s a wig”, ‘why doesn’t her mommy have any hair?” I want this to be a story that can create dialog for parents to speak with their kids about what this disease can do to people.  Joz (age 5) asked her mom to read the story, ‘three more times’ after reading it for the first time. My daughter (age 4) loves reading this story, but always tells me, ‘mommy, don’t make your hair like that again’.  Even though she doesn’t know the word ‘CANCER’ she still understands that it was a time in all our lives that we don’t want to relive.

The book was published by Mascot Books and is for sale at their website www.mascotbooks.com.  Books can also be purchased and autographed at Megan’s blog www.stillmymommy.weebly.com and is listed for $14.95.

About the author: Megan Pomputius lives in Pennsylvania and teaches 4th grade. Her daughter will be going into Kindergarten this year. Megan was diagnosed with ovarian cancer in June of 2013 and has been in remission following surgery and chemotherapy treatments.

How Breathing Exercises During Cancer Treatment Can Relieve Stress During the Holidays

written by: Breast Cancer Yoga Staff

Women undergoing treatment for breast cancer may find themselves highly stressed and are encouraged to look for complementary therapies to ease this stress.  Breathing is one therapy of great value in reducing stress during the holidays.  Developing a breathing practice helps place the patient’s unsettled and anxious mind at ease and allows for the coming back to a “normal” quality of life. This way holidays can be experienced with joy and not dread.

Breathing to Reduce Stress During the Holidays

Breathing to Reduce Stress During the Holidays

Learning specific breathing exercises found on our Breathe With Purpose CD and creating a daily breathing practice as described below will help overcome stress and anxiety during cancer treatments this holiday season.

Beginners Guide To Starting A Breathing Exercise Practice

• Start with 5 or 10 minutes first and gradually increase up to one hour.
• Be as comfortable as possible by wearing warm, loose clothing.
• Breathing exercises should be performed ideally three hours after meals, allowing the stomach to be empty.
• Your mouth should be clean and fresh.
• We recommended breathing exercises be done early in the morning however, breathing exercises can be enjoyed anytime especially when under stress and anxiety.
• Find a place that is quiet and airy; a place where no one or thing can distract you or the breathing practice.
• Find a time of the day where you can establish a rhythm or routine and try to stick it; build a strong foundation.

Breathing exercises may be done in a space we hold for ourselves to be quiet and draw in positives for our mind and spirit. The stress is not supported in this space but only our wellness, and of course the holiday joy. Happy holidays to everyone from all of us at Breast Cancer Yoga.

A Unique Approach Using Food As Medicine To Decrease Side Effects of Cancer Treatment

Cooking Through Cancer Treatment To Recovery” by Dr. Lisa Price ND and Susan Gins, Certified Nutritionist, is a unique cookbook in many ways. Written for family and friends, as well as people going through cancer treatment, the focus is to use food to decrease the side effects of treatment. At the same time this approach improves the quality of life by making the patient feel better, hopefully using less prescription medicine for common side effects, lightening the load on the liver and empowering people to take an active, positive part in their lives.

Cooking From Cancer Treatment to Recovery

Recipe on cover: Artichoke, Bean, Hazelnut and Asparagus Salad

Here is a partial list of criteria we used and why we used it:

  1. All the recipes are hypoallergenic and do not contain gluten, dairy, processed sugar or soy.
  • Why?  Many people are sensitive or allergic and try to avoid these ingredients.  Not eliminating these foods? Then use the recipes and substitute what works for you!

2.    98% of the recipes are only four steps long.

  •  Why?  We did not want to add more stress to anyone’s life who was using the cookbook.  We kept it simple and flavorful. We included a shopping list guide to stock your pantry.

3.     All the recipes have Nutrition Facts information.

  • Why?  We want people to have a healthy balance of protein, carbohydrates, fiber and good fat. In addition, people going through treatment may have other medical problems, such as diabetes, high blood pressure, heart problems, irritable bowel, etc. With Nutrition Facts, it’s easy to see how the recipes fit into their Doctor’s diet recommendations.

4.     Each recipe is coded for symptoms and treatment phases.

  • Why? It’s easy to see for example, if you are going through chemo and you have fatigue or nausea, you can read on the each recipe if it’s good for these issues. There’s a symbol with a letter: P/S=Pretreatment & Surgery, R=Radiation; C=Chemo; H=Hormonal Therapy; R/P=Remission and Prevention.
  • In addition, Dr. Price has created a grid in the back of the book that lists all the treatment phases and the side effects and leads you to the recipes that are recommended for example, constipation, joint pain muscle aches, nausea during chemo. There are eight pages of this grid that cover every treatment phase and all the most documented side effects of treatment.
  • There are many recipes to choose from so you can pick one or many that appeal to you at the time.
  • Each recipe has a Health Tip 101 explaining certain nutrients and why they are important to you.

Delicious Recipe from the cookbook

Recipe pictured: Bibimpap

It is well documented in scientific journals that people who are able to stay healthy during treatment have better outcomes and are able to transition to their pre-treatment lives more easily. The particular nutrients-vitamins, minerals, bioflavonoids, good fats-included in each recipe have been studied to have positive effects decreasing the symptoms of cancer treatment. Using the recipes in our book will support you in remission and prevention.

Gale’s Story of Hope, Help and the Genesis of the Renewing You ®Cancer Gift Bag

By Gale Donovan, survivor, Founder and President of Renewing ® You

My purpose and creation of the Renewing You® Skincare Gift Bag is to provide women with uplifting and useful products while undergoing radiation treatment. My oncology nurse gave me a list of skincare products to purchase to help relieve the common side effects associated with my treatment.  I found the products to work well but was disappointed with the packaging.  These items were aloe vera gel, cornstarch, mild soap, and a soft baby washcloth.  Just think about carrying around a box of cornstarch in your purse. As a former Esthetician I had access to new products and their application.   I instantly thought of a powder sifter jar to put the pure cornstarch and a soft powder puff to apply.  I realized how easy it was to apply the corn starch to a lining of a wig to help with absorbing moisture and also to use as an alternative to deodorant.

I was faced with a tube of aloe vera gel.  The dispensing of it was messy and when going in a public restroom and not having paper towels only a hand dryer available.  I saw a bottle that I could dispense the aloe from the top with three holes on top and it was packaged in no mess applicator, keeping my hands clean.  Also, I could take the aloe vera gel bottle in my purse.

Renewing You Cancer Gift Bag

Renewing You Cancer Gift Bag

When I looked for a low lathering soap it was difficult to find one with pure ingredients with no chemical preservatives.  I customized my soap to a 7 ingredient glycerin soap, it was low lather, no fragrance, and non- irritating.  I recall using a soft baby washcloth with my twins and decided to try one to help exfoliate the sensitive areas.  It worked beautifully.

My gratitude pad is a great way for women to ask for help. My friends would always ask, “What can I do?”  As a wife, mother, and esthetician I was an independent woman doing well balancing all three. I did see the importance of having a meal made or a friend to pick up my twins from football practice.  This sticky note does that and my friends loved having a note as a gentle reminder. A gratutude pad is enclosed in the gift so all the patient has to do is fill out a helpful chore that he/she would like help with, and hand the reminder to a friend or relative.

My oncology nurse was happy to see how I was healing so quickly and she praised me for all my creative ideas.  My Renewing You® Skincare Relief Gift Bag has put so many smiles on women’s faces, each bag contains, an affirmation card, a postcard of my story, a bottle of organic aloe vera gel, a pure glycerin soap, a soft baby washcloth, pure corn starch, and a gratitude pad.  I have put my heart into searching out the purest ingredients in the most convenient packaging that can be taken anywhere on the go.

My hope for cancer patients is that Renewing You® skincare products will:

Make The Journey A Little Easier, A Day At A Time.

The Love Your Melon Foundation is a 501(c)(3) not for profit organization run by college students on a mission to put a hat on every child battling cancer in the United States, and that is why we hope that every single child who has either battled or is still battling cancer can love their melon.  The hat has its obvious purpose of keeping a head warm, but it also has a deeper meaning and helps provide strength throughout treatment and is intended to help strengthen the child cancer community! For every hat sold on the Love Your Melon website, another identical hat is given to a child battling cancer. Through funding from our Buy One – Give One program and generous donations, the Love Your Melon Foundation seeks to provide therapeutic entertainment and comfy hats to children battling cancer during their difficult treatment process. The Love Your Melon Foundation creates smiles on the faces of children battling cancer, engages communities to make a difference and provides therapeutic treatment when it is most needed.

Love Your Melon was founded in an entrepreneurship class at the University of St. Thomas in St. Paul, Minnesota by two friends, Zachary Quinn and Brian Keller. On a mission to improve the lives of children battling cancer since October 22nd, 2012, Love Your Melon has been able to give and sell over 40,000 hats. It was founded on the simple concept of helping those in need and engaging communities to make a difference. On December 23rd, 2013, the organization received 501(c)(3) status and is an established non-profit. The Love Your Melon Foundation has big plans for the future.  On January 12th, 2014 it embarked on the first tour across the east coast. On May 15th, it launched a 50 day West Coast Tour in order to take its mission nationwide. Since then, it has built an ambassador program of over 1000 ambassadors nation-wide and doesn’t plan on stopping until every child in America battling cancer has a hat.

If you would like to request that a free hat be sent to a child you know undergoing treatment, please click HERE to access the Love Your Melon Request Form.

Love_your_melon_pic_1Ambassadors are from colleges across the states with each college having a maximum of 20 members on their crew.  These ambassadors promote Love Your Melon on their campus with advertising campaigns, sales events, and other creative ideas that the ambassador crews take the initiative to get going (5k races, bake sales, etc.).  Culminating all of their hard work, they then donate hats to children battling cancer in their community or at their local hospital.

All of our products are made right here in the United States of America.  We believe in keeping manufacturing here and providing jobs for the citizens of our country.  By doing this we are able to build better relationships with our suppliers that supply our great products.  Our beanies, scarves and shirts are made in St. Paul, Minnesota.

On October 22nd, 2014, Love Your Melon had it’s first Superhero Adventure Day.  Ambassadors from all over the United States arrived in Minneapolis, Minnesota and paired up with a child battling cancer for a day filled with professional athletes, airplane and helicopter flights, race car rides, and a culminating yacht ride.
